Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are used to restore lost volume in the face, while reducing fine lines that appear with age. As a soft-tissue injection, dermal fillers replenish hyaluronic acid and encourage collagen production. They can be used to plump thin lips, soften facial creases, improve the appearance of scars, and enhance shallow contours. Dr. Cohen offers three types of dermal fillers, and she will create a treatment plan specific to your goals.

Juvederm is a dermal filler used to treat facial creases and wrinkles, most commonly the laugh lines and wrinkles around the mouth. Juvederm can be injected around the cheek, nose, and mouth, adding volume to these areas and smoothing out lines and wrinkles. Juvederm can also be used to fill scars and hollow areas.

Voluma is a dermal filler used to add volume, most commonly in the cheek area. Voluma restores volume by injecting the soft tissue of the cheeks with hyaluronic acid, which has been shown to stimulate the body’s own production of collagen. Because of this, patients often continue to see improvement in the area following the procedure.

Volbella is the newest dermal filler in the Juvederm family of fillers.  This soft, smooth gel is used to add subtle volume to the lips and soften the appearance of lines around the mouth, known as perioral lines.  For those who want a very natural, airbrushed look to restore a youthful appearance to the lips, this latest advanced filler allows us a wonderful, non-surgical option.

Dermal fillers have several injection sites per treatment, but the process usually takes between 15 minutes to one hour. Pain is minimal, though some fillers contain an anesthesia to reduce any discomfort. Because this procedure is minimally invasive, there is little downtime following the injections and swelling or bruising disappears quickly. The effects of dermal fillers are seen almost immediately and results last between four months and two years, depending on the patient and the filler used. Patients generally repeat the process when the effects begin to fade.
